Alderman Daniel Barreiro was a City Hall staffer for 35 years, beginning in 1986 as an intern, transitioning in 1988 to Administrative Assistant in the Mayor's Office, and retiring in 2021 as Chief Community Services Officer, a position he held for 15 years. Throughout the decades, Barreiro held such other roles as Assistant Director of Personnel, Assistant Finance Director, and Assistant Chief of Staff.

Barreiro was the vice president of the East Aurora Board of Education, first elected in 2003-2007 and then re-elected in 2017. After being appointed to the role in 2024, Barreiro won his first election in 2025, serving an unexpired two-year term.

Barreiro has held many community leadership positions over the years, including on the boards of the Aurora East Educational Foundation, the East Aurora Alumni Association, El Centro Pan Americano, the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley, the Fox Valley Girl Scouts Council, the Fox Valley Park District, the Fox Valley Symphony, the Fox Valley United Way, the Salvation Army, and Sci Tech.

He currently serves with the Knights of Columbus, the Three Fires Council of the Scouting America, and Project Safe Aurora.

After graduating from East Aurora High School, Barreiro earned his Bachelor of Political Science with an emphasis in local government and a Master's in Public Administration with an emphasis in Urban Management from Northern Illinois University.

Barreiro currently serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Rules, Administration, and Procedures (RAP) Committee and a member of the Finance Committee.


El concejal Daniel Barreiro fue miembro del personal de la Municipalidad de Aurora durante 35 años, comenzando en 1986 como pasante, convirtiéndose en el 1988 en asistente administrativo en la Oficina del Alcalde y retirándose en 2021 como Director de Servicios Comunitarios, cargo que ocupó durante 15 años.     Join Alderman Dan Barreiro for Ward 1's Annual Clean-Up Event, taking place on Saturday, May 10 from 8 A.M. to 11 A.M.

    Trash compactor trucks will be placed at the Spring Street Commuter Parking Lot, located at N. Lincoln Avenue and Spring Street.

    Acceptable items for the trash compactor trucks include: building materials, empty or dried out paint cans, discarded furniture, large and small household appliances, carpet and pads, grills, wood, metal, old toys, bicycles, mattresses, and similar items.

    Acceptable items for the metal recyclers include: aluminum, auto batteries, radiators, brass, copper, insulated wire (extension cord, phone wire, romex) and steel (rebar, sheet iron).

    No electronics are allowed.

    myAurora 311 allows residents to access a new online customer support center, a new mobile application, available for download in the App Store and Google Play, an upgraded phone service, and an enhanced in-person customer service location, set to open in late 2025.

    With new calls and cases expected, the City's current in-person customer service call center, located at 3770 McCoy Drive, will also expand its hours, now being open from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M., Monday through Friday!

    The system allows customers to submit cases, such as street maintenance and repair requests, garbage or debris issues, unsafe structures, and more through the mobile app, online, or by dialing β€œ3-1-1" when residing within City limits.
