Born and raised on Aurora’s west side, Alderman Brandon Tolliver attended West Aurora School District 129, from Hall Elementary School and Jefferson Middle School to West Aurora High School.

As a youth, Tolliver’s dedication to community service was shaped by his involvement in several Aurora-based youth programs, including IMSA summer initiatives, the Boys II Men mentoring group, and the Voices for Excellence community youth choir.

After graduating from West Aurora High School in 2007, Tolliver attended Northern Illinois University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science with a concentration in public law and policy. While in college, Alderman Tolliver immersed himself in civic duties and political opportunities, including volunteering and interning with state and federal elected officials on both sides of the aisle.

For the past decade, Tolliver has charted a successful career path in the insurance industry. He is currently a Commercial Construction Underwriter for The Hartford Group. At The Hartford, he is a member of the Black Insurance Professionals Network and the Employment Engagement Committee, which allows him to help direct community service projects in Aurora and the broader region.

Tolliver was a member of the Masonic DeKalb Lodge 144 and has been a member of Macedonia Church on Aurora’s west side for more than twenty years.

In 2019, he bought his first home in Ward 7’s Georgetown neighborhood and has enjoyed connecting with his neighborhoods and participating in the annual block party.

Appointed on Tuesday, September 5, Alderman Tolliver will fill the remainder of the late Alderwoman Hart-Burns term through the general election in 2025.
